Seven Major Automakers join to Build Huge Vehicle Charging network in North America

Reportedly, seven major automakers have joined hands to build a huge vehicle charging network. These automakers include General Motors (GM), Mercedes-Benz, Honda, Hyundai, KIA, BMW Group and Stellantis. Interestingly Tesla is not in the list of these collaborators.

The collaborating companies have decided to install at least 30,000 fast charging stations in North America for electric vehicles (EVs). This development also means that there will be some kind of standardization, so that all vehicles can use the same charging equipments, ports and standards.

However, Tesla, a big EV manufacturer was left out from the pack. So it is not clear yet that will these charging stations also work with Teslas. However. there is a ray of hope, as Mercedes-Benz and General Motors had already announced to adopt the same charging standards which Tesla is already using in North America. This means most likely Teslas will also be able to get charged on these new charging stations. Also, if Tesla is invited and joins these collaborators officially, it will be even better for the customers.

As all off these collaborators are not using the same charging standards, it is most likely that the charging stations will have have more than one kinds of charging cables/diopters. At least two or more. One thing is for sure, such collaboration will result in huge expansion of existing vehicle charging networks in North America, which in turn result in more confidence of people in EVs.

This will result in eliminating or at least coping with the range anxiety of EV owners while they are out for long journeys. Also anyone who was reluctant to buy the electric vehicle due to these range issue, will have more confidence in making a purchase of such vehicles.

First of such new charging stations will start working from the next summer. At start first charging station will be installed in United States and one in Canada, rest will proceed from there on. People’s acceptance and adoption of electric vehicles is increasing rapidly, so much more charging stations will be needed. Currently over 30,000 charging stations are available in the united states but a much higher number, many folds, are going to be needed in the future as people start to buy electric vehicles. Also, specially when companies like GM and more intend to focus more on EVs and phase out the internal combustion engine cars.

People’s adoption of EVs and companies focusing more on EVs is a very good thing as it is great for the greener future of planet earth. This will reduce the emissions of carbon and other dangerous gases at least from transportation sector. Even better is the fact that companies like Tesla are not only focusing private cars but also making electric vehicles, i.e. Tesla semi truck.
