Meta, the company which owns Facebook, Instagram and whatsapp, is now about launch a twitter like app and service called threads. The app will be available on both Apple store and Google Play store. The app is in fact already listed on both stores, however, before the launch date they are not available for everyone to download.
Speaking of launch date, the threads platform is to be officially launched on 10 am ET, June 6, 2023. This includes both the apps and related website called threads.net. Threads website (threads.net) is currently showing a launch timer and a cool stars like animation, on the time of writing of this article.
Meta the company already have different kinds of social networks, facebook that connect people to people, business to people and more. Whatsapp, which is undoubtedly the most used messaging app around the globe today and instagram which was initiated as everyone’s own image gallery but it is much more than that. One thing which didn’t have until now was microblogging website/service like twitter. Well Mark Zuckerberg is out to fix that now, specially after the Elon Musk bought the twitter and made drastic changes to it, twitter even faced lots of backlash at times, the Mark Zuckerberg (the founder of facebook, meta etc) took the opportunity to introduce his version of twitter. Ofcourse, we are talking about the new threads platform.
Threads also have an advantage that it is being introduced as service by instagram. Which means people will just use their instagram accounts to login. It means all the instagram users already are welcome at threads. The user may still need to sign up using the instagrams account for an account on threads platform itself or they may end up just using the instagram account itself, this will become clear pretty soon, as the the platform launches shortly.
Before the launch of threads, the twitter is without a doubt, the sole king of microblogging website. However, soon this changes. In case of launch of any other microblogging site against twitter, we would have just said, they will need to do lots of work to come to the level of twitter. But, O Boy, we are talking about Meta here, the company which already owns Facebook, Instagram, twitter and they are into lots of other stuff like Artificial Intelligence (AI), augmented reality and much more. So when such company is launching a new service, you need to take it very serious, even if you are twitter.
Elon Musk, after buying twitter and taking it off the stock exchange, making it a private company, have also found few ways to monetize the platform. This includes charging a monthly fee from users, who want to keep the blue verification badge with their account name while giving them few extra features etc. Also twitter is not monetized with Ads and promoted tweets. So a similar service like threads, if they offer same stuff at low prices or free initially, people will love that. So Meta’s threads is going to be another giant in the fish pond of micro blogging.
