August 2023 brings the Supermoons, Sturgeon full Moon and Blue Moon

Year 2023 is the when unusually four super moons to be seen in full year. The second super moon of the year will appear on August 1, 2023. It is also called Sturgeon full moon when it occurs in August, it will have the brightness at least 16% more than of the usual moon and the disk size will be at least 8% bigger than the usual one.

Blue Moon is another phenomenon when in a single month two full moons appear. First full moon will appear on August 1, 2023 and second will appear on August 30, 2023. The second full moon of August will be called the Blue Moon. Also both the moons appearing in August are the supermoons.

More exciting of both the phenomenons is the Super Moon, which is scheduled to appear on the 1st of August. Supermoon is a great opportunity for the photographers around the world to click overwhelming pictures. Everytime Supermoon occurs great pictures of popular places and monuments appear all over internet with the big moon in the background, giving the majestic appearence.

As the moon goes around the earth in an elliptical irregular orbit, so Supermoon occurs when the distance of moon is the least from earth and on the same time its full moon. So in that specific case moon can appear much bigger based on how much it is closer to earth. When it appears at least more than 8% bigger, it qualifies for the supermoon.

While both the full moon appearing in August are Supermoons, the fourth and final Supermoon will appear in September 2023 exactly on September 29th. Interesting thing about the Supermoons of 2023 is that all four Super moons are consecutive full moons. i.e. One in July, two in August and the final one on September 29, 2023.

Do try to seize the opportunity to see the remaining supermoons on the dates given above. Do head to open spaces on dusk, enjoy the supermoons, may be click some pictures of them with monuments which your phones or cameras which you already have. So once again, the remaining dates to remember for the remaining supermoons are as follows.

  • August 01, 2023 – Second Supermoon of the Year
  • August 30, 2023 – Third Supermoon of the Year (Also Blue Moon)
  • September 29, 2023 – Fourth and final supermoon of the year
